XYO, originally a proof-of-location network, has evolved into a full-fledged layer-1 (L1) blockchain designed for the decentralized data economy. In an interview, CEO Arie Trouw discussed the network’s transition, its role in bridging Web2 and Web3, and XY Labs’ exploration of tokenized real-world assets (RWA). XYO’s focus was initially on verifying geospatial data using Bound Witnesses to provide location validation, but the broader potential of blockchain and decentralized networks led to the transition to an L1 infrastructure. The company is now part of the decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) movement, aiming to bring trustless, real-world data validation to the blockchain space.
